In my previous two articles, Delivering Output Reliably in Mission Critical Environments and Key Features for Effective Enterprise Output Management, I have highlighted typical applications for which output management software is appropriate and key features that enable enterprises to reap the benefits of their investment in EOM technology. This article will introduce additional key features that Barr Systems customers identify as critical contributors to successfully delivering and managing output in their operations.
Assign costs to printed documents
- Track costs for every print file regardless of the source, format or destination.
- Assign print costs to internal projects, billing accounts, etc.
- Set daily, weekly, monthly or custom interval quotas.
Change user behavior with business rules
- Enact rules restricting color print, personal print and printer usage.
- Automatically route print jobs to the best printer based on cost, location, function, run length, paper size, etc.
- Notify and inform the users via emails and desktop pop-ups.
Manage print from mobile devices
- Enable printing from any smartphone or tablet.
- Assign costs, restrictions, and rules to mobile-based print.
- Enable secure release at the device for documents printed from mobile devices.
- Give users control over their queued print jobs from their mobile devices.
Control all enterprise printing, not just desktop/office printing
- Receive documents from mainframes, AS/400s and UNIX hosts to route to network printers.
- Enable pull-printing and secure release at the MFP for these documents.
- Track and report on all print jobs in addition to office print.
- Leverage failover and other Barr EOM features
Enterprises who rely on Barr EOM have successfully reduced costs related to both office and back office printing, as Barr EOM is a single solution that addresses the requirements of both environments. These cost benefits have been realized through reduced consumables and postage, reduced IT support, better asset management, proactive monitoring and the application of business rules to intelligently enable printing.
In the next few articles, I will share some real Barr EOM case studies to illustrate how our customers are leveraging Barr EOM.
