    1. Enterprise Output Management – Use Cases from the Real World - Barr EOM

While a feature rich solution is paramount to delivering on all aspects of comprehensive enterprise output management, those features must return tangible benefits to enterprises and operational advantages to real users.  In this article, real use cases from Barr Systems customers will illustrate how Bar EOM delivers on both promises.

Barr EOM is both data source and hardware independent, meaning that users have the ability, based on business rules and company processes, to generate documents intelligently, securely, and cost effectively for delivery anywhere in the extended enterprise.  This flexibility is enhanced by EOM’s ability to track all usage and costs related to output generation – and to present it in comprehensive views and reports that are based upon your enterprise’s requirements.

      Use Case 1

Secure Printing – Small, highly successful investment firm

      • Challenge: securing proprietary algorithms and a highly valuable and confidential customer database against theft
      • Description: This firm specializes in short term loans, and has developed proprietary technology that enables them to predict very accurately which potential borrowers will repay their loans.  Their other major asset is the list of high-grade customers.  While they secure their IT environment by not connecting it to the internet and banning the use of removable media including USB memory, preventing employees from printing using “print screen” keys on PCs was not possible
      • Solution:  Barr worked with the company to create alerts in Barr EOM to notify security when certain print parameters were met during specific “high risk” time slots, so that a security could validate that the printing was for legitimate and allowed purposes.

      Use Case 2

Print Suppression with Electronic DeliveryBarcode equipment manufacturer

      • Challenge: Reduce printing costs and improve delivery time related to company invoices (15 variations)
      • Description: To reduce costs and improve efficiency, this company wanted to move all invoice print to PDF based documents and deliver them to customers electronically
      • Solution: Barr EOM receives the data from the UNIX host via the printer queue and formats the variable data into PCL documents suitable for printing.  The print spool is converted to PDF format and distributed via email to customers.  The option to create hardcopy print simultaneously is preserved.  The customer reduces costs through savings related to paper, consumables, maintenance, and postage

Additional Barr EOM use cases will be forthcoming in my next article.
