Barr Systems customers tell us that the three primary benefits they expect their Barr EOM investment to deliver:
- Most cost effective to acquire, manage, and maintain
- Flexible, scalable and secure enough to support any output environment.
- Easy to implement and integrate with their existing infrastructure
In this article, I share another real world case study with you to demonstrate how Barr Systems meets these expectations.
Barr EOM is simple to use. Like an automatic wristwatch, Barr EOM enables the delivery of important, timely, and useful information through an easy to understand, easy to use interface. Just as a watch face masks the complexity of interacting with a very sophisticated machine, the simple-to-use interface of Barr EOM sits on top a sophisticated solution for managing and tracking every aspect of an enterprise’s output needs.
Use Case 1
Comprehensive Distributed and Office Print Management – Banking
- Challenges: manage mainframe generated and office generated output to 1,150 networked multifunction printers; apply business rules to ensure that printing is done in the most efficient and cost effective manner; ensure that work sent to out-of-service MFPs is automatically re-routed to the best alternative devices; account for all usage and costs related to print
- Description: Data from mainframe applications and desktop users via EOM’s port monitors. EOM routs and prints all reports and documents must be routed to the appropriate MFPs for Distribution and all relevant information, including which device, how many documents, how many pages, color pages, b&w pages, simplex, duplex, requestor, etc must be collected, aggregated and logged. In the event that an MFP device experiences and outage or issue, print jobs must be re-routed automatically to the most appropriate alternate printer for completion and a service request generated.
- Solution: Barr EOM receives Data from mainframe applications and office applications via the EOM port monitors. All documents to be printed on the 1,150 MFPs are processed by EOM, at which time all required usage and costing information is collected. Barr EOM’s configured failover profile automatically enables work to be completed on an alternate device. The end user is notified that the document printed on a failover device. In addition, printing is accomplished based upon business rules configured by the administrator that govern office printing applications – for example, color printing can be suspended on weekends, or documents in excess of a specified number of pages may be routed to a specific device.
Since real user stories make the most compelling case for enterprise output management, I will share a few more real world implementations next time.
