Samsung's new UK printer boss has acknowledged the vendor's recent struggle with staff attrition issues as he talked up his B2B expansion plans. Mark Ash joined Samsung from Xerox in December with the stated aim of expanding the Korean vendor's B2B printer business in the UK and Ireland. Failure to address document security challenges exposes European financial services firms to risk, according to Ricoh study
A study commissioned by Ricoh Europe shows that the financial services sector, which has traditionally relied on manual and paper based approaches to processing information, is under increasing pressure to securely manage growing amounts of information.
The study also shows that:
- Less than half (47%) in the financial services sector think their document security is better than in 2009
- More than a quarter (25%) think it’s worse
- Only a third are able to full audit access to documents, with the majority therefore lacking control over who might be accessing potentially sensitive information

The first quarterly review of 2013 by the Federation of Small Business, which surveyed 2,686 of its members across the UK, shows that confidence among SMEs has increased dramatically since the last quarter of 2012, from a negative reading of -5.6 to +6.3 in the first quarter of this year, marking an improvement of 2.2 points from Q1 of last year. Last month, PrintWeek reported that Monsoon Accessorize had moved to charge suppliers a rebate of up to 4% on all invoices and imposed a similar blanket rebate for all new contractors. The commercial printer's directors convened a meeting of creditors on 23 January at which it was decided that the company should enter voluntary liquidation.
